World Refill Day update
The uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic has left us all feeling a bit wobbly. So you might not be surprised to hear that we’re postponing World Refill Day until the world starts to look a bit more normal again. We’re aiming for Autumn 2020 but will be monitoring the situation as it unfolds.
It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly but we know it’s the right one. Here are some of the reasons why it makes sense to postpone until the Autumn:
- Hygiene – The health of the public and of our Refill schemes, communities and Refill Station staff is always our number one priority.
- Timing – It looks as though efforts are being made to delay the peak of the outbreak until the summer months, which is when World Refill Day was originally planned for. We’re hoping life will begin to go back to normal come Autumn but, like everyone else, we’ll be keeping a close eye on developments.
- Travel restrictions – We want to make the biggest splash possible on our first World Refill Day and the travel restrictions will affect this both locally and globally. We’d rather wait until we are free to come together to deliver a campaign with maximum global impact!
- Schools and businesses closing – We’re sad to see so many partners and businesses we work will be closing their doors temporarily in these uncertain times. As this understandably affects the availability of drinking water, it makes sense to wait until when they all reopen again.
These are certainly unprecedented times but we’re pleased to say the decision to postpone Refill Day doesn’t affect the day-to-day running of the Refill campaign. Whatever the coming weeks and months throw at us all, we’re not going anywhere – we’ll be plugging away behind the scenes to champion simple solutions to plastic pollution and working alongside our communities to power some much needed positive change in the world.
We’ll be keeping you in the loop with our plans as we keep an eye on and adapt to the ever-changing situation and come autumn, we’re hoping that we’ll all have re-emerged with a newfound gratitude for the planet, ready to make an even bigger splash with World Refill Day.
Stay safe, stay connected. Sending virtual hugs and positive vibes to all.
