Refill Silsden
Silsden is a small West Yorkshire town, through which the River Aire and the Leeds-Liverpool canal run. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close distances to Keighley and Bradford (and the famous Salts Mill) in one direction, and the market town of Skipton and spa town of Ilkley in others.
Making a difference
Silsden has a strong sense of community, with lots of local community groups including Friends of Silsden Green Places, Friends of Silsden Park and Silsden Buzz – our community Facebook page with 9,500 members.
Silsden is popular with dog walkers, cyclists and walkers. We want people to be able to call into any of our shops, cafes and pubs in the knowledge that they can have their water bottle refilled and avoid buying single use plastic. Silsden Beck flows into the River Aire, and was recently found by Greenpeace to contain high concentrations of plastic. We’re working to reduce our impact on our river and ultimately the sea, as well as ensuring Silsden’s surrounding countryside remains a joy to spend time in, and doesn’t become strangled in litter and plastic.

A team effort
Refill Silsden is run by Plastic Free Silsden, and is a Surfers Against Sewage affiliated group. Refill Silsden was established in March, 2018 and had 148 members within the first three months. Plastic Free Silsden was established by Caroline Whitaker, our local Green Party candidate and member of Silsden Parish Council.
