Refill Tameside
Tameside is a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester and comprises of nine towns. Bordering High Peak in Derbyshire to the east, and the City of Manchester to the west.
Tameside is Transforming
Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution, the towns of the borough then grew and then became involved in the cotton industry, which dominated the local economy. Since then, Tameside has undergone a major transformation. Recently, the town centre in Ashton has seen the progress of the “Vision Tameside” redevelopment strategy. This sees the introduction of three “advanced learning centres”, including the newly built Tameside College and Tameside Council joint service centre.
Central to this redevelopment strategy is a commitment to environmental sustainability. For example, the roof of the Council joint service centre and Tameside College holds solar photovoltaic panels. A Refill scheme in Tameside helps to extend the commitment to environmental sustainability to the broader public. As well as providing a great way for residents to practice these principles by cutting down on the wasteful culture of single-use plastics.
